Domages is a 1.6-metre-high sculpture in 316 L stainless steel. It is made up of triangular planes and a sphere, combined to create a five-stage composition that evokes the damage caused by the French nuclear tests to the personnel who oversaw them. Since 1961, many soldiers and civilians have been irradiated in the Algerian desert and in the Pacific, where the tests took place. United within the AMNDVDEN association (Association du Mémorial National des Vétérans des Essais Nucléaires), they are fighting to have these injuries recognized by the government. It is in this context that a memorial has been erected in the public garden of the commune of St Bonnet le Mure (69), next to Lyon’s St Exupéry airport (at the corner of rue Louise Labé and the town hall).
