"Memorial"
The AFN memorial (morts des guerres d’Afrique du nord) was inaugurated in November 2009 in the presence of numerous personalities. It was commissioned by the independent Hérault Memorial Association, chaired by Mr Jacques Bousquet.
We designed this memorial with 4 hands and two heads, in collaboration with architect Philippe Bousquet. We were lucky enough to be asked to design a work with the sea in the background. The idea of not breaking the skyline with a monument erected high up was immediately obvious to us. Gradually, as we worked on twenty or so models (see article devoted to the making of the memorial), the shape stabilized. The result was a monument made up of 3 blocks of 8 mm thick cor-ten steel, positioned at man-height.
