For this Branching, the 17th, I wanted to compose a structure in three distinct forms. The question of how we move from one form to another becomes one of the main themes of the sculpture. To emphasize this ambition, each of the forms seems to go in a direction at right angles to the one to which it is attached. Thus, a sort of lung connects via a bony protuberance to an elongated, grooved bone, which in turn connects to what looks like a plumbing valve.
From there, the position of the sculpture is not obvious, as it has not one but several directions. This is where the two branches inserted into each end of the composition come into play. They allow the sculpture to have two points of support on the ground and thus establish its balance. The balance of the sculpture therefore rests on the branches, giving them a very concrete meaning.
In this sculpture, I paid particular attention to the junction points so that the transition from one volume to another accompanies the changes in direction.
This sculpture is an original work produced in a limited edition of 8 pieces (What is an original work ?). It is shown here, as is often the case, in white bronze, but it can also be made in bronze, silver, resin, or even gold !
The branches vary from one copy to another, as with the other Branching in this section, since they are the result of gathering during my walks in the forest.
At home, I like to place the Branchings in the bookcase among the books, as if the books had produced this sculpture or, in any case, as if the Branchings were a species whose natural habitat is the world of the bookcase.
