In this “Embranchement,” one form seems to be inspired by another.
This sculpture is the result of experiments I conducted using 3D modeling AI (Hitem3D), feeding it a sketch of a classical marble sculpture I drew in five minutes at the Musée d’Orsay. From the 3D model I obtained, I kept only the draped portion. From there, I sought a satisfying form. This Embranchement is the result.
From the model proposed by the AI (this is just an experiment, as I do not wish to use this technology due to a lack of confidence and concerns about independence), only a few lines remain. When distorted, these lines convey the dynamic of the part of the sculpture that appears to be blown by the plant-shaped bulb, striating it with volutes stretching forward. This second part evokes a marine animal halfway between a dolphin and a ray. A branch enters the bulb ; a mechanical process takes place within the volume, passing through the bulb and then crossing the ray, and a branch of a different species emerges from the ray’s mouth. Thus, a whole process of transformation is evoked in this way, drawing on concepts of animal/plant hybridization.
This sculpture is an original work produced in a limited edition of 8 (what is an original work ?). It is presented here, as is often the case, in white bronze, but it can also be cast in bronze, silver, resin, or even gold ! Each sculpture is unique, because the branches I collect in the forest are, by definition, unique. The idea that it’s nature that makes each sculpture in the series unique fills me with joy ! Why not use branches from your own garden ?
